Antivirus is a common product that has long been promoted as a standard product similar to toothbrush, detergent or car. However, even though they are widely used have flaws.

It’s simply not possible for antivirus programs to keep pace with the sheer quantity and variety of new malware being developed every day. It’s an arms race, and it is far from all antivirus programs that are available off the shelf or on the internet actually offer a security level close to 100 100%.

Another problem is that Trojans and viruses can manipulate your computer’s software in a way that it cannot detect them. This happens when the virus changes the settings of the antivirus program or when it exploits one of its features or functions to cause false-positive.

Furthermore, there are a number of instances where the antivirus software does not recognize files even if they are clearly malicious. The antivirus software has not yet had a chance of adding the file to its database. To achieve this, it has to look over the file and examine its contents against malicious files already present in the database of the antivirus. This is a lengthy and resource-intensive process. The slower the process is, the less accurate detection. Additionally, the antivirus must install filters for system events inside the protected computer kernel in order to analyze the data before passing it to its engine for analysis.
